CBMF Symphony: The Mothers of Identity
Thursday, July 20, 2017 8:00 PM
Crested Butte Music Festival, Crested Butte, CO
We all know how important Mom is in our own lives. How did the idea of “mother” – Mother Earth, Mary, or a birth mother –shape these composers’ identities?
Anna Clyne – Within her arms
Mozart – Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in Eb Major, K. 364
Haydn – Seven Last Words of Christ, Sonata III: Mulier, ecce filius tuus
Beethoven – Symphony No. 6
About the works:
CONDUCTOR: Tito Muñoz
Fascinating points about this concert:
• Mozart wrote the second movement of Sinfonia as a dedication to his recently deceased mother
• Mozart, long a violinist, played the solo viola part of this work, and subsequently changed to a violist for the remainder of his career
• Soloists Erik and Emily, new CBMF Co-Artistic Directors, are Husband / Wife and have played music together for over half of their lives (and they’re not old) OR started playing together when they were 14-years-olds
Who are Erik + Emily?
